General Questions

Are you able to perform activations remotely? +

Yes, we offer remote coding services worldwide. For customers outside our mobile service area, we ship a pre-configured diagnostic interface (loaner tool kit) directly to you. Simply plug the device into your vehicle's OBD port and connect it to your home Wi-Fi. We then connect securely to perform the activation remotely. The process typically takes 1-2 hours. The loaner kit is returned using the prepaid shipping label included. A refundable deposit may be required.

Can the dealer enable these features? +

No, Jaguar Land Rover dealers are not given the tools or authorisation to enable features outside of the original factory build specification. The manufacturer uses feature packaging as a key profit driver and incentive to upgrade to higher trim levels or newer models. Dealers can only configure features that were originally ordered on the vehicle's build sheet. This is precisely why independent specialists like JLR Activations exist - to unlock the capability that's already built into your vehicle.

Will my changes be rolled back during over-the-air updates or at the dealer? +

Software Over The Air (SOTA) updates from Jaguar Land Rover will not roll back your changes. SOTA updates primarily target infotainment, connectivity, and mapping systems - not the core vehicle configuration or engine calibration. While it is technically possible for a dealer to revert changes during major service work, this is not something we have ever encountered in practice. Dealers rarely investigate or modify existing configurations unless specifically instructed by the customer or required for a warranty repair. We also store your original configuration should you ever need to revert.

Will this void my warranty? +

We follow the OEM process for activating features and use genuine JLR calibration files. This is not a "crack", jailbreak, or third-party software trick. Detection would be extremely unlikely and only possible by the manufacturer conducting a deep forensic analysis of the vehicle's electronic modules. As with any vehicle modification, there is always some theoretical risk, and each owner needs to determine their comfort level. We have not experienced nor heard of a single incident where warranty coverage has been affected by our activations. For power upgrades, we use factory calibration files identical to those on high-power models from the same production line, making detection virtually impossible.

What hardware do I need to enable features such as Adaptive Cruise Control? +

In most cases, your vehicle already has all the hardware required for software activations. Features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Ambient Lighting, and Dynamic Mode typically share the same physical components across trim levels - the difference is purely software configuration. If hardware is required for a retrofit (such as massage seats, soft door close, or LED headlights), this will be clearly explained in your compatibility report and quoted separately. We never sell software activations for features that require missing hardware without making this absolutely clear.

Is this safe for my vehicle? +

Yes. Our activation process uses the same diagnostic tools and software protocols that Jaguar Land Rover dealers and engineers use. We do not modify firmware, hack ECUs, or use any non-standard procedures. Every activation is preceded by a full vehicle health check, and we always back up your original configuration before making any changes. In the extremely unlikely event of an issue, we can restore your vehicle to its original state.

Technical Questions

How do I find my VIN? +

Your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) can be found in several locations: on a plate at the base of the windscreen (visible from outside the vehicle), on a sticker inside the driver's door pillar, on your V5C registration document, on your insurance certificate, or in your vehicle's infotainment system under Settings > Vehicle Information. The VIN is essential for us to determine your exact factory build specification and available features.

How long does an activation take? +

Most software activations take between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the number of features and vehicle model. Hardware retrofits vary significantly - simple installations like ambient lighting may take 2-3 hours, while complex retrofits like massage seats or HUD can take a full day. Power upgrades typically take 1-2 hours including pre- and post-diagnostic checks. We always provide an accurate time estimate when you book.

Do I need to prepare my vehicle before the service? +

Yes, a few simple preparations help ensure a smooth service: ensure your vehicle battery is fully charged (or connected to a charger during the session), have all key fobs available, clear personal items from the interior, and for remote coding, ensure a stable internet connection near your vehicle. For power upgrades, we recommend the vehicle has at least half a tank of fuel. We'll send you a complete preparation checklist when you book.

What payment methods do you accept? +

We accept all major credit and debit cards, bank transfer, PayPal, and cash for in-person services. Trade account customers can request 30-day invoice terms subject to credit approval. Payment is typically required before or at the time of service for private customers.

Do you offer a warranty on your work? +

Yes. All software activations come with a 30-day support guarantee - if any activated feature stops working within 30 days, we'll re-activate it free of charge. Power upgrades include a 12-month warranty on the calibration. Hardware retrofits carry a 12-month parts and labour warranty. We also provide lifetime support for configuration questions and guidance.

Can you activate features on a vehicle with a dead battery or electrical fault? +

No. We require the vehicle to be in good electrical health before performing any coding or programming. A weak battery or existing electrical fault can cause module programming to fail, potentially "bricking" an ECU. We always perform a pre-service health check, and if issues are found, we'll advise on necessary repairs before proceeding. This is for your vehicle's safety and our professional integrity.

Workshop & Trade Questions

Do you offer trade accounts for workshops? +

Yes, we offer comprehensive trade accounts for VAT-registered automotive businesses. Benefits include 25% discount on software activations, 15% on hardware retrofits, 20% on power upgrades, priority booking, dedicated technical support, and free VIN compatibility checks. There is no minimum monthly commitment. Apply by emailing your company details and VAT number.

Can you support our workshop with remote diagnostics? +

Yes, our remote diagnostic support is popular with independent workshops. We connect to your diagnostic laptop via TeamViewer or AnyDesk while you're working on a customer's vehicle. We can guide you through complex procedures, interpret DTCs, supply coding files, and troubleshoot issues in real-time. This is charged per incident or available as part of our trade support packages.

Do you provide training for our technicians? +

Yes, we offer structured training programmes ranging from 1-day diagnostic fundamentals to 5-day complete JLR specialist certification. Courses cover SDD/Pathfinder operation, feature activation procedures, retrofit installation techniques, power upgrade processes, and customer communication. Training is available at our workshop or on-site at your premises for groups of 3+ technicians.
