General Questions
What is the difference between a retrofit and feature activation?
A retrofit involves physically installing new hardware (sensors, modules, displays) into your vehicle. Feature activation unlocks software-only features that are already installed in your vehicle but disabled from the factory. No physical parts are added.
Will retrofitting or activation void my warranty?
No. Because we use genuine OEM parts and factory JLR software, your remaining manufacturer's warranty remains intact. We do not use aftermarket remaps or third-party tools.
How long does a retrofit take?
Most retrofits take 2-6 hours. Complex installations like adaptive cruise control or surround cameras may take 1-2 days. Feature activations typically take 30-60 minutes.
Do you offer mobile service?
Yes, for certain feature activations and simpler retrofits we offer mobile service across the UK. Complex hardware installations are done at our Maidstone workshop.
How do I know if a feature is compatible with my vehicle?
Send us your VIN and the feature you're interested in. We check against the factory build database and confirm compatibility within 24 hours — completely free.
What is a factory power upgrade?
A factory power upgrade is an official increase in engine output achieved through JLR's own ECU calibration files. Unlike aftermarket remaps, this preserves your warranty and is identical to how the factory upgrades engines between model years.
How much does CarPlay activation cost?
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto activation typically costs between £350 and £650 depending on your model year and whether a hardware module is required.
Do you provide warranty on your work?
Yes, every retrofit, activation, and power upgrade comes with a full 1-year warranty on parts and labour. If anything fails, we fix it at no cost.
Can I retrofit any feature to any JLR vehicle?
No — compatibility depends on your specific model year, trim level, and existing hardware. Some features require specific control modules or wiring that may not be present on all vehicles. We always check before quoting.
What payment options do you accept?
We accept bank transfer, credit/debit cards, and PayPal. For larger retrofits, we may require a deposit to order parts.
Do you keep my vehicle overnight?
Most work is completed within a single day. For complex multi-system retrofits, we may need the vehicle for 2-3 days. We offer a courtesy vehicle subject to availability.
Are your parts genuine?
Absolutely. We only source OEM parts through official JLR channels. Every part has a genuine Land Rover or Jaguar part number and comes with the manufacturer's warranty.
Can I activate features remotely without visiting?
Yes — for many software-only activations, we can connect to your vehicle remotely via SX-LINK or guide you through a simple OBD connection. No workshop visit required for compatible features.
Do you ship parts internationally?
Yes, we ship OEM parts and diagnostic tools worldwide. Shipping costs and delivery times vary by region. Contact us for a quote.
What is your refund policy?
If we cannot complete the work as agreed, we offer a full refund. If parts have been ordered specifically for your vehicle, a restocking fee may apply.
Engineering Tools & Hardware
What diagnostic hardware do you use?
We use a combination of genuine JLR dealership hardware and our own JLR engineering solutions. Our hardware includes the JLR DOIP VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface), JLR ENET wired cables, JLR ENET WiFi Type C adapters, and the Generic X-OBD ENET cable (red) for basic diagnostics. Each tool serves a specific purpose depending on the vehicle year and protocol.
What is the JLR DOIP VCI and why do you use it?
The JLR DOIP VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) is the official diagnostic hardware used by Jaguar Land Rover dealerships worldwide. It supports the DOIP (Diagnostic Over Internet Protocol) standard required for all 2017+ JLR vehicles. We use genuine DOIP VCI hardware because it provides the fastest, most reliable connection for ECU programming, module configuration, and full-system diagnostics. It is the only hardware officially supported by JLR Pathfinder software.
What is the difference between JLR DOIP VCI and an ENET cable?
The DOIP VCI is a dedicated hardware interface designed specifically for JLR vehicles, supporting both DOIP and legacy protocols. It includes voltage protection, faster data transfer, and is required for dealer-level programming. An ENET cable is a simpler Ethernet-to-OBD adapter that connects directly to the vehicle's OBD port. It supports DOIP communication but lacks the advanced features and protection of the VCI. We use the VCI for complex programming and the ENET cable for simpler diagnostics.
What is the JLR ENET WiFi Type C adapter?
The JLR ENET WiFi Type C adapter is a wireless diagnostic tool that connects to your vehicle via WiFi and to your phone, tablet, or laptop via USB Type C. It eliminates the need for cables while diagnosing, making it ideal for mobile technicians and remote support sessions. It supports full DOIP protocol for 2017+ vehicles and works with both JLR Pathfinder and our own SX-LINK remote diagnostics system.
What is the Generic X-OBD ENET cable (red)?
The Generic X-OBD ENET cable is a cost-effective Ethernet-to-OBD adapter commonly used for basic JLR diagnostics and coding. While it does not offer the same protection or speed as genuine JLR hardware, it is suitable for reading fault codes, checking live data, and performing simple module activations. We recommend it for DIY enthusiasts and workshops on a budget, but always use genuine JLR hardware for critical programming tasks.
What diagnostic software do you use?
We use three official JLR software platforms: JLR Pathfinder (for 2017+ vehicles), JLR SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics for pre-2017 vehicles), and TOPIx Cloud (for workshop manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins). In addition, we have developed our own JLR engineering solutions: SX-Tool, SX-CAN, SX-LINK, JET-PRO, JET Locksmith, and CCF-PRO Editor.
What is JLR Pathfinder software?
JLR Pathfinder is the official diagnostic and programming software for 2017+ Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. It is the same software used by JLR dealerships worldwide and supports the DOIP protocol. Pathfinder allows us to read and clear fault codes, program new modules, configure vehicle features, perform software updates, and activate hidden factory features. A valid JLR subscription is required for full functionality.
What is JLR SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics)?
JLR SDD is the legacy diagnostic software for pre-2017 Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. It provides comprehensive fault finding, guided diagnostics, module programming, and configuration for older models including the Discovery 3/4, Range Rover L322, and pre-2017 Jaguar XF/XJ. SDD remains essential for maintaining and upgrading older JLR vehicles that do not support the newer DOIP protocol.
What is TOPIx Cloud?
TOPIx Cloud is Jaguar Land Rover's official cloud-based workshop manual and technical reference system. It provides factory repair procedures, wiring diagrams, technical bulletins, software release notes, and vehicle configuration data. We use TOPIx Cloud to ensure every retrofit and activation follows the exact factory procedure, guaranteeing compatibility and warranty preservation.
What is SX-Tool and what can it do?
SX-Tool is our own advanced JLR programming and coding tool. It goes beyond standard dealer capabilities to enable custom feature activation, deep ECU access, module configuration, and bespoke programming tasks. SX-Tool is used daily for activating features that standard software cannot unlock, modifying vehicle configurations, and performing advanced diagnostics that require direct ECU communication.
What is SX-CAN?
SX-CAN is our own CAN bus communication tool for JLR vehicles. It provides direct access to the vehicle's Controller Area Network (CAN) for low-level diagnostics, custom message injection, and module communication. SX-CAN is essential for advanced programming tasks, troubleshooting communication faults, and working with modules that standard dealer tools cannot access.
What is SX-LINK?
SX-LINK is our own remote diagnostics and programming interface. It enables us to connect to your vehicle securely over the internet, eliminating the need for you to visit our workshop. Using SX-LINK, we can perform many feature activations, fault code reading, and module configuration tasks remotely. All you need is a compatible diagnostic adapter (ENET WiFi or DOIP VCI) and an internet connection.
What is JET-PRO?
JET-PRO is our flagship JLR engineering tool for advanced ECU programming, module development, and custom firmware work. It provides deep-level access to JLR vehicle systems that goes far beyond standard dealer capabilities. JET-PRO is used for complex programming tasks, developing custom solutions, and working with prototype or modified modules that require specialised engineering knowledge.
What is JET Locksmith?
JET Locksmith is our own JLR key programming and immobiliser tool. It enables us to add spare keys, replace lost keys, program keyless entry remotes, and configure immobiliser modules for all JLR vehicles. Unlike standard dealer tools that require pre-ordered keys, JET Locksmith can work with a wider range of key types and perform emergency key programming for vehicles that have lost all keys.
What is CCF-PRO Editor?
CCF-PRO Editor is our own tool for editing JLR Customer Configuration Files (CCF). The CCF is the master configuration file that defines every feature and option in your vehicle. With CCF-PRO Editor, we can modify vehicle configurations to enable custom features, change factory options, and unlock capabilities that are not available through standard dealer software. This is essential for complex custom builds and retrofit configurations.
What is DOIP protocol and why does it matter?
DOIP (Diagnostic Over Internet Protocol) is the modern communication standard used by 2017+ Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. It replaces the older CAN-based protocols and allows much faster data transfer between diagnostic tools and vehicle ECUs. DOIP is essential for programming large modules like the infotainment system, performing full software updates, and accessing the latest vehicle features. Without DOIP-compatible hardware, you cannot properly diagnose or program 2017+ JLR vehicles.
Do you use genuine JLR tools or aftermarket clones?
We use genuine JLR hardware and official software for all critical programming and diagnostic work. For basic diagnostics and simple coding tasks, we may also use high-quality aftermarket tools like the Generic X-OBD ENET cable. However, for ECU programming, module configuration, and feature activation, we always use genuine JLR DOIP VCI hardware and official JLR Pathfinder/SDD software. This ensures reliability, warranty preservation, and access to the latest factory updates.
Can you program keys for my Land Rover or Jaguar?
Yes, we can program keys for all JLR vehicles using JET Locksmith and JLR Pathfinder/SDD. We can add spare keys, replace lost keys (even if all keys are lost), program keyless entry remotes, and configure immobiliser modules. We require proof of ownership for all key programming services.
Can you perform remote diagnostics?
Yes, through our SX-LINK remote diagnostics platform, we can connect to your vehicle over the internet and perform many diagnostic and programming tasks without you visiting our workshop.
