The Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) is a core original factory intelligent lighting function featured on high-end Land Rover models with pixel headlights, and also an active safety lighting specification exclusive to top-trim variants. Unlike traditional fixed low/high beam switching, the ADB system uses the vehicle’s front‑mounted sensor suite to continuously scan and monitor road conditions, oncoming traffic, preceding vehicles in the same lane, and ambient light levels around the clock. Based on real‑time driving situations, it automatically adjusts headlight beam angle, coverage width, light zoning, and bright/dark areas within milliseconds.
When driving at night on highways, rural roads, or unlit sections, the system maintains high beam illumination at all times without requiring manual driver input. Upon detecting an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle traveling ahead in the same lane, it intelligently masks the corresponding light zones, precisely dimming the sections that would cause glare to other road users, while keeping the rest of the road brightly lit by high beams. This avoids dazzling other drivers and maintains maximum forward visibility, fundamentally solving the drawbacks of traditional high beams: limited range, glare disturbance, and frequent manual switching.
This intelligent lighting logic significantly improves nighttime driving safety, comfort, and advanced driver assistance experience, making it a key upgrade for refined factory lighting performance. It is compatible with all newer Land Rover models equipped with pixel headlights.
The ADB function has strict hardware requirements and only supports vehicles with the original factory intelligent lighting architecture:
The vehicle must be factory‑fitted with a PIXEL headlight assembly, which enables precise beam shaping and dynamic adaptive adjustment through independently controlled pixel light zones that can be activated or deactivated individually.
For older model vehicles, factory standard headlights lack zoning control capability and cannot directly support ADB activation. To enable this function on older vehicles, owners must first retrofit and upgrade to UK/Europe‑spec headlight assemblies that support pixel zoning control. Only after installing compliant, pixel‑capable headlight hardware can the full Adaptive Driving Beam system be successfully activated and fully operational.
